the Texas clock is done and gifted!!
more pics for scale:
he loved it and I think it came out pretty well :)))
I do wish I'd cut out a spot for the clock mechanism so it doesn't stand off the wall so much, but I didn't know where it would go until later (wouldn't want to drill too close to a knot or crack). I suppose if I'd planned my wood pieces in advance that would've been possible, but oh well.
Also since it's off center, I also added d rings and picture wire to hang it on the back, and a small block to keep it balanced level on the wall. The rings were kind of a pain to install because the screws they came with were too long.. but it works and it's the back so nobody's looking haha.
I've posted some WIP pics already, but here's the progression from log -> boards all in one place :)
so much hand sawing.. (I did try using a circular saw to start a couple cuts, but it was either too wobbly to be safe, or too shallow to get through the whole thing.)
I really like how the live oak looks just with the poly - so much natural variation and interesting grain. This was only ~1/4 of a log and we have a whole pile so definitely thinking about more projects. may wait for the garage to stop being a sauna first though.
Oshun is another major Orisha also called “Ọṣun” and “Ochún” in the Santería religion of the Caribbean (Puerto Rico and Trinidad) brought over by Yoruba people. She is the goddess of divinity, femininity, fertility, beauty and love
